Why Austin?

Life is like a book, with a story and many chapters. A few chapters you can find in mine are the pre-memory chapters written by people who remember my childhood better than I can, an awkward adolescent high school chapter and a dazed and confused college chapter. The great thing about our personal life story is we are the authors, illustrators and publishers of our life books. We can choose when a chapter ends, or we can make any part of our life story never ending.

I've chosen to start a new chapter in my life, which included a move to a new city and state. So I packed up my stuff, said goodbye to the Land of Enchantment and said hello to my neighbor, the Lone Star State. A fresh start in Austin, TX felt like the best thing to do after I graduated from the University of New Mexico. I studied journalism and I am passionate about writing, so I figured I would give Texas a try to pursue my journalistic dreams.

The first time I ever stepped foot in Austin was last summer when my family was on their way to vacation in the Caribbean. We drove into Austin the day before our flight and stayed in the city. One night was all it took for me to fall in love with a spunky city under a dark-blue Texas sky. I loved the vibe, it had a vivacious and spontaneous feel. I loved the people, who were easy going, but outgoing as well. The city felt young and alive and exciting. Since that summer night I had always told myself I was going to move to Austin. It's where I felt I was supposed to be.

Since I finally made my way out to good ole Austin, and basically don't know anyone here, I decided that a blog would be a great way to share what the city has to offer. As a new comer I would be able to experience, first hand, the Austin way of life and offer my thoughts to anyone who is interested. So look forward to embarking on the next chapter of my life and enjoying a new place with me, which I'm sure will be full of adventures.
